I created this illustration for issue #29 of S!CK Magazine, a really awesome pop-culture news magazine based out of France. For this issue, the S!CK team asked me to create a wrap-around cover based on Drew Struzan's iconic design of of the movie poster for the John Carpenter film, The Thing (1982).
The team at S!CK Magazine were very enthusiastic about this cover, because they are huge fans of John Carpenter and this milestone of a horror movie. The design idea and inspiration behind the look of the cover was conceived by Yoann Villars, the Lead Editor for S!CK Magazine. He wanted the cover to feel very similiar to Struzan's original 1982 movie poster, but with a more visual connection to the alien shape-shifting monster of the piece. This one was a lot of fun to create because I got to illustrate my own version of Carpenter's iconic creature!
S!CK Magazine once again provided me with a rough layout idea, color palette, and reference pages already keyed out for the issue. They wanted the cover illustration to visually connect with the design and layout of the corresponding art and articles within the magazine, and everything in this issue looked amazing because of their meticulous planning!
